Northern China's Inner Mongolia saw its new energy installed capacity surpass 100 GW when several projects commenced operations, making it the first provincial-level region in China to achieve this milestone, Xinhua News Agency reported on April 2.
This breakthrough, making great contributions to the transformation and upgrading of the region's energy mix, followed the region's leap to the top spot in China's total new energy installations in 2023.
Inner Mongolia is projected to produce 230 TWh of electricity annually with the help of 100-GW new energy capacity, equivalent to saving 70 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 190 million tonnes, according to the region's energy bureau.
The region also aims to add 40 GW new energy installed capacity in 2024 by accelerating the construction of wind and photovoltaic projects, taking the total capacity to over 135 GW by the end of the year. Inner Mongolia's new energy installations are expected to outpace that of thermal power on year ahead of schedule.
