Germany imported 2.40 million tonnes of hard coal in January 2024, falling 25.80% from the year-ago level, according to preliminary data from German Statistics Bureau.
The imports, however, were 8.33% higher than the previous month, data showed.
The import value stood at €502 million (about $541 million), down 35.37% on the year yet rising 20.42% on the month. That put the average import value at €209.02/t, down 12.89% from a year ago but up 11.17% from the previous month.
Throughout 2023, Germany's hard coal imports totaled 26.88 million tonnes, down 23.86% on the year, with the value of imports falling 45.51% year on year to €6.07 billion.
