India imported a total of 21.39 million tonnes of coal in February 2024, rising 20.25% year on year and 3.42% on the month, according to data released by Iman resources.
In the month, non-coking coal imports in the country increased 17.34% from a year ago and 3.11% from the previous month to 13.28 million tonnes, while coking coal intakes reached 4.65 million tonnes, up 28.3 % year on year and 2.73% on the month.
India imported 1.54 million tonnes of PCI coal during the same period, falling 1.09% from the year prior and 2.38% from a month earlier. Anthracite imports climbed up 25.06% year on year and 15.99% month on month to 218,200 tonnes.
In February, Indonesia was the largest non-coking coal supplier to India with shipment at 8.93 million tonnes, rising 37.66% YoY and 8.85% MoM. Non-coking coal intakes from South Africa came in at 2.73 million tonnes, up 35.33% YoY yet dipping 0.97% MoM, data showed.
The country imported 2.71 million tonnes of coking coal from Australia over the month, up 5.98% YoY and 0.59% MoM; inflows from the U.S. were 884,500 tonnes, surging over 100% YoY and up 24.94% MoM.
