China imported 11.46 million tonnes of coking coal in December, up 77.3% year on year and 15.5% month on month, according to latest data from the General Administration of Customs.
The import value came in at $1.95 billion in December, up 59.8% year on year and 23.6% from November. This translated to average import price at $170.5/t, falling $18.7/t from the preceding year yet up $11.1/t month on month.
China imported 100 million tonnes of coking coal throughout 2023, jumping 60.6% year on year, with the imports value up 15.1% to $17.22 billion, data showed.
China's anthracite imports stood at 1.58 million tonnes in December, rising 52.0% from the year-ago level yet down 5.6% on the month.
Import value of anthracite totaled $250 million, climbing up 4.8% year on year and 2.1% from the previous month. The average import price was calculated at $157.0/t, down $70.9/t year on year yet up $11.9/t month on month.
China imported 18.30 million tonnes of anthracite in 2023, surging 65.5% year on year. The aggregate import amounts came in at $3.16 billion, climbing 34.5% on the year, data showed.
