Jilin province in northeast China had 18 producing coal mines with legal production capacity of 14.24 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) as of June 30 this year, announced by Jilin provincial energy bureau recently.
The legal production capacity comes from coal mines with complete procedures including mining permits, safety production permits and operation licenses.
Among them, 6 coal mines had individual production capacity higher than 0.6 Mtpa and their production capacity totaled 11.2 Mtpa. Hunchun Mining (Group) Baliancheng Coal Industry Co., Ltd. had the largest capacity size, at 2.7 Mtpa.
There were 11 operating coal mines with production capacity at or below 0.6 Mtpa each, with their total production capacity amounting to 3.04 Mtpa. A coal mine with production capacity of 0.9 Mtpa was idled.
The 12 coal mines were under construction in Jilin province by the end of the first half of 2023, mainly located in Baishan city. Their respective production capacity was 0.3 Mtpa and total capacity reached 3.6 Mtpa. In particular, one mine was new, 3 mines were being expanded and the remaining 8 were renovated & expanded.
The production capacity of under-construction coal mines which do not conform to the coal industry policy was not published here, the bureau said .
The operating coal mines should publicize their production capacity, annual and monthly production plans in an obvious location of the mining areas, and overcapacity production should be prohibited, it stated.
Jilin province churned out 4.55 million tonnes of coal in the first half of 2023, up 1.6% year on year.
