Shanxi, China's No. 1 coal production province, targets to raise coal production to 1.365 billion tonnes by 2023 through accelerating the release of advanced capacity under the premise of ensuring safety, according to the provincial government work report.
As of December 27, 2022, the province's coal output had just exceeded 1.3 billion tonnes, People's Daily reported, citing the provincial energy bureau. Shanxi has yet to release specific coal production data for 2022.
According to the government report, Shanxi's daily coal production averaged 3.56 million tonnes in 2022, and it delivered 620 million tonnes of medium- and long-term power coal supplies to 24 provinces and regions during the past year.
During the past five years from 2016-2020, Shanxi continued to release advanced coal capacity, pulling up the advanced coal capacity share to 80% and coal production to 1.3 billion tonnes, ranking first in China.
Shanxi will further increase the share of advanced coal capacity to around 95% by the end of the 14th Five-year Plan period (2021-2025), according to the latest work report.
The province vows to do a good job in ensuring supply and stabilizing power coal prices, and meanwhile will actively deploy advanced environmental protection and high-efficiency coal-fired power units, steadily promote coal-fired power capacity replacement, and complete energy-saving and carbon-reducing transformation, flexibility transformation, and heating transformation of 16-GW coal-fired power units, according to its work report.
While continuing to boost advanced coal capacity, Shanxi also aims to raise the share of new and clean energy to 54% by the end of 2025.
