The Polish government is planning to temporarily lift its ban on the worst-quality coal in the market in response to the soaring prices of the fuel and the supply shortfall after it banned Russian coal imports amid the Russia-Ukraine conflicts.
The country's climate ministry has submitted a draft bill to suspend the restriction imposed in 2020 for 60 days, citing unfavorable changes in the coal market stemming from the Russia-Ukraine conflicts.
Poland has strived to seek alternative supplies from countries including Columbia, Australia and South Africa for all 8 million tonnes of coal that it used to import from Russia after it imposed an immediate ban on imports from the country in April.
The individual Polish customers, small heating plants and small companies are the major consumers of the imported Russian coal in Poland.
