Indian thermal coal imports reached 14.07 million tonnes in June, jumping 92.71% year on year and up 3.94% from a month ago, showed the latest data from Iman Resources.
India's total imports of coal and coke in June rose significantly by 79.94% on the year and 5.36% on the month to 20.33 million tonnes.
In June, Indonesia was the biggest thermal coal supplier in India market, exporting 5.63 million tonnes, up 35.79% year on year but 23.32% lower than May.
India imported 2.94 million tonnes of Australian thermal coal, rising 35.75% from the previous month and far higher than 7.56 million tonnes in June last year.
Indian thermal coal imports from South Africa picked up 9.67% on the year and 17.44% on the month to 2.86 million tonnes, data showed.
Indian coal imports in the first half of this year climbed up 11.03% year on year to 120 million tonnes, of which thermal coal imports were 80.61 million tonnes, accounting for 67.2% and up 8.37% year on year.
In June, India domestic coal output was 51.97 million tonnes, up 8.36% year on year but down 3.35% from May. Its coal output totaled 404 million tonne in January-June, of which Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed 327 million tonnes or 80.9%.
