Production of mining products, except coal and diamond, registered a 21.3% year-on-year increase in South Africa in March, showed data released by the Statistics South Africa.
Growth of platinum group metals, copper, iron ore and nickel topped the list, at 68.6%, 63.4%, 47.9% and 41.5% respectively, data showed.
In contrast, coal output of the country declined 5.8% on the year, owing largely to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020, and subsequent slowdown in economic activity and sluggish demand from India.
Sales of mining products of South Africa surged 46.9% year on year in March, platinum group metals, gold and iron ore posted the largest yearly increase at 76%, 61.3% and 48.3% respectively.
Coal sales in March posted a year-on-year increase of 5.7%.
