China added about 56.37 GW of coal-fired power generation capacity in 2020, rising 27.4% compared with a year ago, showed data from the National Energy Administration.
However, the growth was far slower than that of hydro, wind and solar power.
The country's newly-added hydropower capacity advanced by a significant 197.7% year on year to 13.23 GW in 2020; the newly-added wind power capacity reached 71.67 GW last year, surging 178.7%; and that of solar power climbed 81.7% to 48.20 GW, data showed.
The utilization hours of power generation equipment in power plants with a capacity at 6 MW and above were 3,758 hours, 70 hours less than last year.
Hydropower equipment utilization hours came in at 3,827 hours, 130 hours more than 2019, while thermal power equipment was used for 4,216 hours, 92 hours less than the preceding year.
