Japan imported 13.73 million tonnes of coal in September, dropping 7.63% year on year but up 5.28% from the preceding month, showed data from the country's Ministry of Finance (MOF).

Japan imported the most coal from Australia in September, at 7.94 million tonnes, which was 7.32% lower compared with a year ago but 5.47% higher than a month earlier.
Imports from Indonesia came in at 2.04 million tonnes, up 1.31% year on year but falling 9.02% on the month, data showed.
Japan took 1.77 million tonnes of coal from Russia last month, down 7.85% from a year ago and 9.55% from the preceding month.
The September's imports sent total intakes to 129 million tonnes during the first nine months, down 6.14% year on year. The accumulative imports were worth 1.31 trillion yen, down 32.36% from last year.
The import volume in September stood at 118.54 billion yen, still 36.83% lower than the year-ago level, but rising 0.94% on the month.
The average import price was calculated at 8,635.82 yen/t, slumping 31.61% from a year ago and down slightly by 4.13% from August, data showed.
