The company produced 6.72 million tonnes of thermal coal in the year-ago period. It extracted 5.66 million tonnes of thermal coal in last quarter from April-June.
South 32 extracted 1.86 million tonnes of met coal in July-September, a year-on year jump of 12.8%, supported by a new form of underground coal mining at Illawarra project.
The miner produced 1.65 million tonnes of met coal in July-September last year, and 1.52 million tonnes in the April-June quarter this year.
As the COVID-19-related lockdown was lifted in South Africa, the company also fully restored its production there. It's manganese ore output therefore rose 3.2% on the year and 19% on the quarter to 1.46 million wmt.
South 32 said it will keep its FY21 all production goals intact.
