Guizhou province in southwestern China is currently constructing 79 medium- and large-sized coal mines, in an effort to give full play of local coal resources and ensure healthy development of power, metallurgical, chemical and building material sectors, local media reported.
As of end-August this year, Guizhou had put 15 coal mines into operation, with annual production capacity combined at 6.9 million tonnes, according to Guizhou Daily.
The province moved to reduce approved coal production capacity at 88 mines with coal and gas outburst risks, cutting capacity by 0.35 million tonnes to 71.47 million tonnes, said a notice released by the provincial energy bureau.
The province churned out 10.35 million tonnes of raw coal in August, rising 9.4% from the year-ago level. Its January-August output totaled 72.45 million tonnes, falling 3.3% year on year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
