Sichuan has withdrawn a total of 50 coal mines with production capacity of 5.1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) this year, official data showed.
Among 50 coal mines that have been closed, 34 mines were operating ones and 16 mines were under-construction ones.
The individual capacity of all these mines was no higher than 0.15 Mtpa, of which production capacity of 11 mines was 0.15 Mtpa each, capacity of 37 mines was 0.09 Mtpa each and capacity of two mines was 0.06 Mtpa each.
By location, nine mines were located in Guang'an city, 19 in Dazhou city, 17 in Yibin city, one in Guangyuan city, two in Bazhong city and two in Zigong city.
Sichuan province has planned to close 215 coal mines with outdated coal capacity of 33.03 Mtpa in three to five years from 2016, including 18 key state-owned coal mines with a production capacity of 12.09 Mtpa.
Sichuan government has adopted financial rewards and subsidies and comprehensive policy measures to guide the orderly exit of small-sized coal mines with poor resource conditions, backward technology, high safety risks and serious losses, and prone to severe disasters.
Local governments have used various methods like mergers and acquisition, debt restructuring and insolvency liquidation to dispose "zombie enterprises".
Sichuan has also tried capacity quota transactions through market-based online bidding, and established the coal capacity replacement and trading platform in the Southwest United Equity Exchange.
