Ningxia Hui autonomous region in northwestern China produced 6.88 million tonnes of raw coal in May, rising 9.2% from the year prior, showed data from local statistics bureau.
Raw coal output in the first five months climbed 4% year on year to 32.5 million tonnes, accelerating from a growth of 2.7% in January-April.
Production of bituminous coal rose 4.9% on the year to 30.14 million tonnes during the period; output of bituminous coal for coking purpose dropped 3.3% to 1.47 million tonnes, and anthracite output decreased 11% to 900,000 tonnes.
In the first five months, Ningxia's raw coal sales stood at 28.37 million tonnes, down 3.4% year on year.
As of end-May, Ningxia held about 22 days' worth of raw coal stocks, at 4.08 million tonnes.
Ningxia's coke production totaled 3.23 million tonnes during January-May, up 1% from a year ago.
Power generation increased 8.5% from a year ago to 74.45 TWh during the same period, with thermal power generation at 60.02 TWh, up 8.5% year on year, and renewable power output 14.43 TWh, up 8.5%.
