Ceke, a key border crossing between Mongolia and China, saw accumulative coal imports reach 1.80 million tonnes from March 28 till June 18, Inner Mongolia Daily reported, citing Alxa Commerce Bureau.
Currently, there are 52 enterprises engaged in coal import business, with the number of trucks rising to 668 from the original 200. The number of trucks passing the border crossing increased to 551 from original 35.
Daily coal import through Ceke is around 26,800 tonnes, the report said. Ceke border crossing links Shiveekhuren in Mongolia, and accounts for 35.44% of China's total coking coal imports in 2019.
Neighboring Mongolia has been a major coking coal supplier to China, with coal mainly shipped through Ganqimaodu and Ceke. But imports through the two border crossings have declined notably from the past years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
