Shaanxi province in northwestern China supplied 86.40 million tonnes of coal via railway to other provinces over January-May, increasing by 11.44 million tonnes or 15.26% year on year, official data showed.
The railing volumes hit a record high, accounting for approximately 60.6% of Shaanxi's outbound coal sales, according to data from the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
A total of 110.5 million tonnes of long-term coal contracts were signed among coal suppliers, shippers and buyers in Shaanxi, up by 24.8 million tonnes or 28.9% on the year. As of the end of May, the fulfillment rate of long-term coal contracts reached 92.3%, rising by nearly 7 percentage points year on year.
The newly-opened Haoji Railway from Haolebaoji, Inner Mongolia to Ji'an, Jiangxi played an important role in promoting cross-regional transportation of coal extracted in Shaanxi.
As of the end of May, the railway shipped 9.76 million tonnes of coal totally, of which 9.06 million tonnes was sent by coal miners in Shaanxi province, accounting for 92.78%. Specifically, 3.10 million, 4.09 million and 2.29 million tonnes were supplied to Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi, respectively.
The railing freight rates of Haoji railway and Jingshen railway (North Jingbian Station-West Shenmu Station, Shaanxi) were revised downward to boost cargo shipment. The rate was lowered by 5% for Jingshen railway from June 1.
Coal miners have also made full use of the preferential freight rate of the Wari Railway to actively explore new customers in chemical and metallurgy industries and increase coal dispatch to ports.
