Northwestern China's Shaanxi province produced 56.66 million tonnes of raw coal in May, up 21.2% year on year, down 7.6 percentage points from April but still 21.3 percentage points higher than the growth of China's total, local statistics said.
In January-May, the province's coal production totaled 248.95 million tonnes, up 22.3% year on year, 21.4 percentage points higher than China's total.
In January-May, the added-value of coal mining and washing industry increased 19.7% compared with a low base over the same period last year, but the growth dipped 0.6 percentage point from January-April.
In May, coal railings from the provinces rose 23.4% on the year to 14.23 million tonnes, bringing the total volume to 64.55 million tonnes in the first five months, a 23.7% rise.
Commercial inventory of raw coal fell 1.48 million tonnes month on month. The statistics bureau pointed recovered activities in the downstream sectors, increased seasonal power demand, new commissions of rail stations along Haoji railways are major factors to benefit local coal sales.
In January-May, energy consumption for the six energy-guzzling sectors totaled 35.83 million tonnes of standard coal equivalent, accounting for 83.8% of total industrial use, driving the total energy consumption of the province by 4.2 percentage points.
During the period, Industrial coal consumption rose 5.9% to 4.77 million tonnes, with the growth down 0.5 point from January-May 2019.
