Shanxi's installed new energy capacity rose 21.81% from a year ago to hit 24.24 GW as of the end of April. It accounted for 25.86% in Shanxi's total installed power capacity, which reached 93.73 GW by April-end, according to data from Shanxi Daily.
It is worth mentioning that Shanxi's power capacity utilization from new energy reached record highs for three times in April, reaching 14.68 GW at the highest.
Shanxi's new energy power generation hit 3.698 TWh in April, an increase of 38% year on year. In particular, power generation from solar and wind grew 38.87% and 28.48% respectively.
At 11:23 am on April 24, Shanxi Power Grid's operating new energy capacity exceeded 14 GW for the first time to reach 14.68 GW, accounting for 60.9% of the total electricity consumption at that time, of which wind farms contributed 8.74 GW and photovoltaic capacity in operation reached 5.93 GW.
Shanxi province has made every effort in recent years to expand the outbound power transmission channels, supporting Shanxi's transformation from a large energy producing province to a strong energy hub.
The excess new energy in Shanxi is mainly sent outward to two markets. One is the cross-regional surplus new energy spot trading market managed by the Control Center of the State Grid.
The power flows to power grids in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang and Shanghai through UHV DC transmission lines of Yanmen, Shuozhou-Huai'an, Jiangsu and Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia-Taizhou, Jiangsu. A total 66 spot deals or 83.81 GWh were concluded in March.
The other market is the trans-provincial peak season regulation market in North China. The power flows to Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan, Hebei Southern Power Grid and Shandong Power Grid by means of nine 500kV power transmission channels.
Thirty peak season regulation tradings were completed in March with the transaction volume of 162.36 GWh.
That is, 246.17 GWh of surplus electricity generated by new energy sources in Shanxi were supplied to other provinces in March. As a result, Shanxi's utilization rate of new energy reached 98.12% in March.
In addition, Shanxi provincial power grid operator plans to kick off 105 new projects at 10kV and above in 2020, with a line length of 2397.3 kilometers. Seventy five projects at 10 kV and above are planned to be put into operation in 2020, with a total line length of 2,899 kilometers.
