Canada said its bituminous coal exports in March bounced back from a 16-month low in February, a jump over 70% month on month.
Official trading data showed Canada exported 3.09 million tonnes of bituminous coal in March, surging 70.22% from a month earlier. However, the figure was still 16.32% lower than that in March 2019.
Value of the exports totaled $550 million, up 82.35% month on month but down 34.84% year on year, translating into an average export price of $178.05/t FOB, up 7.12% month on month but down 22.13% year on year.
In March, Canada exported 1.29 million tonnes of the soft coal to Japan, a 35.93% rise year on year and over sixfold of the size in February. Exports to India totaled 435,000 tonnes, down 27.95% year on year but up 11.61% month on month.
It exported 395,200 tonnes of bituminous coal to China in month, 318,100 tonnes to South Korea and 240,400 tonnes to Taiwan China.
In the first three months, Canada's bituminous coal exports totaled 7.07 million tonnes, a 9.12% fall month on month.
