PT Adaro Energy Tbk says it plans to boost production by 440,000 tonnes to 7.2 million tonnes from the Kestrel coal mine in 2020, up from 6.76 million tonnes in 2019.
The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, 51 km northeast of Emerald in Central Queensland, Australia.
During FY2018/19 (one year ending 30 June 2019), Kestrel exported 5.068 million tonnes of metallurgical coal. India took the largest share with 1.61 million tonnes, followed by 857,000 tonnes to Singapore, 753,000 tonnes to Japan and 591,000 tonnes to South Korea.
Kestrel is a joint venture between Kestrel Coal Resources (80%) and Mitsui Investments (20%). Kestrel Coal Resources is owned by EMR Capital of Australia (52%) and PT Adaro Energy of Indonesia (48%). Rio Tinto Limited sold its 80% share to Kestrel Coal Resources in August 2018.
