Tangshan, known as China's top steel-making city, is expected to launch safety scrutiny over clean heating immediately after an emergency meeting held on December 4.
Smoke exhaust and ventilation facilities of households burning clean coal for cooking and heating would be primarily focused during the inspection, Li Guifu, vice mayor of Tangshan city, said in the meeting.
The check came after carbon monoxide poisoning accidents in Tangshan and neighboring Chengde that happened due to improper use of clean coal facilities and have led to injuries and several deaths.
Local governments have been encouraging use of clean coal since November, the start month of winter heating in northern China, to rein in air pollution that would typically blanket the industrial base during winter.
