Price monitoring center of Inner Mongolia, the largest coal production region in China, said thermal coal price slightly decreased in October as demand from utilities were not so sufficient in the month.
Last month, mine-mouth settlement price averaged 215.55 yuan/t across the region, down 0.16% from a month earlier. In Ordos, the top coal production hub in the region and the country, the average price declined 0.85% month on month and 9.02% year on year to 257.78 yuan/t.
During the period, the average thermal coal purchasing price of local power plants edged up 0.22% on the month to 205.67 yuan/t.
As northern cities have gradually entered the winter heating season, coal prices in the region is expected to increase in November, but small fluctuations couldn't be ruled out in the current oversupply situation.
