Datong Coal Mine Group plans to set up a new energy firm based on its existing new energy resources, according to the company on October 4.
The move reflects the firm's efforts to respond to China's push to boost clean and renewable energies although Datong Coal has grown to be the country's third largest coal producer behind CHN Energy and China Coal.
The coal giant looks to establish six major industry systems including coal, power, finance, coal chemical, culture & tourism and logistics in 2019-2025 period and meanwhile expand its new energy development.
Datong Coal will move to quicken construction of four wind power projects and two photovoltaic power projects, which are expected to come into commercial operation this year.
Three wind power projects that started construction this year are scheduled to start operation in 2020.
The company will strive to increase its total power installed capacity to 20 GW and new energy capacity to reach 2 GW by 2020.
