China's top steelmaking hub Tangshan again tightens anti-pollution measures on heavily-polluting industries during October 9-12 when local weather department said the wind is weak and pollutants are easy to accumulate over the urban area.
The city's government required steel mills to continue with a 50%-cut in capacities of blast furnaces, sintering machines, pelletizing equipment and limestone kilns.
Steelmakers also need to raise desulphurization and denitrification capacities to minimize pollutant emissions.
Coking plants, on the premise of safety operation, need to stop wet coke quenching over the period and use dry quenching process instead.
Sectors of coal-fired power, cement and other heavily-polluting industries are also within the scope of restrictions.
Tangshan and Handan, another steelmaking city in Hebei province, were gradually lifting restrictions, which had been introduced in late September to ensure blue skies during the 70th National Day grand ceremony, after the celebration concluded as air quality improved.
