Chinese import thermal coal expected to stabilize ahead of holiday
Chinese import thermal coal market is expected to wind down before the 7-day National Day holiday that starts from October 1, with buying interest fading away from end buyers and traders.
Offers and bids for Indonesian coal appeared the same as days earlier this week in the market. Cargoes of Indonesian 3,800 Kcal/kg NAR coal were offered stable at $33-33.5/t FOB for October-loading Supramaxes, while bidding prices were close to $32.5-32.75/t, which most traders acknowledged deals were difficult to be made blow the range.
Coal production and shipment at Bluff Coal Mine to move into high gear
The coal production at Bluff coal mine, a new metallurgical coal mine in the State of Queensland, Australia and its shipment will be moving into high gear from now onward.
Bluff coal mine is an open-cut coal mine in the Bowen Basin in the State of Queensland and located 20 km to the east of Blackwater. In the vicinity of this coal mine, Jellinbah East coal mine, Yarrabee coal mine, Cook Colliery, Curragh coal mine and so on are now in operation.
India: Economic slowdown impacts coal import cargo in H1 FY2019-20
Economic slowdown has impacted coal import cargo in the first half of this fiscal, as overall cargo growth at major ports registered a marginal growth of 1.9% to 294 million tonnes, rating agency ICRA said.
Healthy volume growth in container, crude and iron ore segments was offset by the decline in coal and some other bulk cargo volumes, it said.
Mongolian coal exports notch a record high in Aug
Mongolia exported a record high amount of coal to its main destinations, in August, showed data from the National Statistics Office of Mongolia, supported mainly by larger shipments to China.
The country's coal exports totaled 4.13 million tonnes last month, presenting a robust growth of 38.32% compared with a year ago, data showed. It also jumped by 48.15% from 2.78 million tonnes in July.
India to overtake US as world's 2nd largest coal producer this yr
India is expected to overtake the U.S as the world's second largest coal producers this year, given its continuous increase in coal production, said KPMG partner Niladri Bhattacharjee.
Its coal production is predicted to reach roughly 815 million tonnes in fiscal year 2019-2020 (April 1-March 31), up from 730 million tonnes in FY 2018-2019, Bhattacharjee said on September 17 at the mJunction Indian Coal Markets conference in Calcutta.
Australian state knocks back Korea-led coal project on environmental impacts
Bylong coal project operated by a South Korean company Korea Electric Power Corp (Kepco) in Australia was refused planning permission by the state government of New South Wales which said it was not in the public interest.
Kepco claimed it would inject more than $300 million into the state economy, extracting 120 million tonnes of coal over 25 years.
S Korea Aug thermal coal imports down 6.7% MoM
South Korea's imports of thermal coal (bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal) dropped 6.7% in August from a 6-month high hit in the month prior, showed the latest customs data.
Total thermal coal imports came in at 9.11 million tonnes in August, 11.92% higher than the year-ago level, data showed.
Kazakhstan to ship 2 Mt Kazakh coal to SE Asia via Chinese port
Kazakhstan has reached a preliminary agreement with China to transfer around 2 million tonnes of Kazakh coal annually to Southeast Asian countries via China's Lianyungang port, a Kazakh minister said on September 13.
Early in August, the Kazakhstan Mining and Metallurgical Enterprise Association proposed a request to its government to study the possibility of exporting coal to Asia-Pacific countries through Lianyungang port in eastern China's Jiangsu province.
Newcastle thermal coal price slightly rebounds after 3-yr low
Prices of thermal coal at Newcastle, Australia's largest port of the power generation material, slightly bounced back as of mid-September after a three-year low in late-August, the latest data showed.

Russia's Jul coal exports down 22.4% MoM; shipments to China edge up
Russia's coal exports totaled 16.06 million tonnes in July, up 25.6% from July 2018 but down 22.41% from June, data from Federal Customs Service of Russia showed.
China, the largest Russian coal receiver in July, accounted for 21.2% of the total shipments, or 3.4 million tonnes, which rose 52.09% year on year and 0.67% month on month.
Vietnam Aug coal imports hit record high
Vietnam's coal imports hit a record high in August, showed data from Vietnam customs, buoyed by surging domestic demand, especially in industrial sector.
Total coal imports came in at 4.85 million tonnes in August, shooting up 220% from the year-ago level and rising 13.09% from a month ago, data showed.
