China's imports of thermal coal (bituminous and sub-bituminous coal) increased 20.07% year on year in July and up 26.33% from the previous month, showed data from the General Administration of Customs on August 23.
Thermal coal imports stood at 13.58 million tonnes in July, the GAC data showed.
Value of the imports in June totaled $933.25 million. Based on this, the average import price was calculated at $68.72/t, up $0.93/t month on month yet down $4.33/t year on year.
Thermal coal imports declined 6.09% on the year to 67.71 million tonnes in the first seven months of this year, which was worth $4.77 billion, down 19.79% year on year.
Lignite imports expanded 20.1% year on year and 19.25% month on month to 10.84 million tonnes in July, adding up to a total of 70.14 million tonnes over the January-July period, 15.5% higher than the same period of a year ago.
Value of lignite imports increased 1.3% from the previous year to $483.3 million last month, bringing the amount of the first six months up to $3.05 billion (-6.2% YoY), data showed.
