China Jul raw coal output down 3.34% MoM, NBS

China's raw coal production fell in July from an over 3-year high of 333.35 million tonnes a month earlier, data showed from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on August 14.


Even though July was the peak season for coal demand, the country's coal production slid 3.34% month on month to 322.23 million tonnes in July, data showed.


Shaanxi H1 raw coal production down 8.2% on yr

Northwestern China's Shaanxi province produced 266.55 million tonnes of raw coal in the first half of 2019, data from the Shaanxi Bureau of Statistics showed.


Affected by two coal mine accidents earlier this year, the province's coal production in the first six months decreased 8.2% or 23.82 million tonnes, but the output was gradually recovering month by month.


Chinese thermal coal market begins stabilizing; traders hold up sales

Chinese domestic spot thermal coal market started stabilizing from half-a-month falling. Most traders expected the market to pick up soon and many of them held up sales for better prices.


The stabilization seemed abrupt as the market remained in the downward trend just one or two days before, with supply-demand fundamentals almost unchanged.


Ganqimaodou Jul coal imports up 4.62% MoM

Ganqimaodou, an inland hub for China-Mongolia coal transportation, saw a month-on-month growth of 4.62% in coal imports in July, statistics data showed.


It imported 1.73 million tonnes of coal in July including 1.3 million tonnes of raw coal, 327,800 tonnes washed coal and 99,900 tonnes other coals, according to the source.


Inner Mongolia Ceke Jul coal imports up 6.65% from multi-year low

Ceke border crossing in northern China's Inner Mongolia saw a 6.65% month-on-month increase in coal imports in July from a sharp decline of 57.32% a month earlier, according to customs data.


Total coal imports of the inland checkpoint stood at 750,200 tonnes in July, data showed. Yet the volume was still 5.65% lower than the year-ago level.


China Coal Jul commercial coal output surges 44.9% YoY

China Coal Energy Co., Ltd, a listed arm of China National Coal Group, saw a yearly surge of 44.9% in commercial coal output in July, the company said in an announcement on August 15.


In July, the company produced 8.88 million tonnes of commercial coal, edging up 0.79% from a month earlier.


Shandong Jul raw coal production down 11.54% on yr

Eastern China's Shandong province produced 10.64 million tonnes of raw coal in July, reducing 11.54% year on year and 8.98% month on month, statistics data showed.


Over January-July, output of raw coal in Shandong totaled 69.09 million tonnes, falling 8.95% or 6.79 million tonnes from a year prior.


Shanxi vows to reduce coke capacity to below 147.68 Mtpa

Shanxi province, the No. 1 coke production base in China, pledged to cut coke capacity to below 147.68 million tonnes per annum, in a drive to combat with air pollution, according to a notice issued by the provincial government on August 12.


De-capacity targets for coke have been allocated to various cities in the province, with Linfen, Luliang and Changzhi required to shed the most coke-making capacity by 10.9 Mtpa, 8.32 Mtpa and 6.42 Mtpa respectively.


Shandong 99 coal mines resume operations after typhoon alert lifted

A total of 99 coal mines in Shandong resumed operations in the afternoon of August 13 after the typhoon alert was lifted on the day, said provincial bureau of coal mine safety supervision.


Around 106 local coal mines were required to stop operations in the morning of August 11 after the rainstorm alert was raised from orange level to the red a day ago impacted by typhoon Lekima.


China to strengthen safety checks at coal mines

China is about to launch a series of safety checks at coal mines over late-August to the end of September, in a bid to snuff out any production loopholes and prevent calamities, National Coal Mine Safety Administration noted in an announcement recently.


Specifically, the heightened safety inspections mainly focus on the implementation of de-capacity and closure of coal mines. For those ''zombie coal mines'' that have suspended production for quite a long time, power supply should be strictly restricted or cut off, the announcement said.


Daqin Jul coal shipment down 4.02% on yr

China's leading coal-dedicated Daqin railway witnessed a year-on-year decline of 4.02% in its coal shipment in July, yet a gain of 4.1% month on month, said its operator Daqin Railway Co., Ltd in an announcement on August 10.


Daqin railway shipped 37.29 million tonnes of coal in July, the announcement said.


China Shenhua expects H1 net profit to grow 5% on yr

China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd., a listed arm of China Energy Investment Corp., expected to see its net profit attributable to shareholders grow 5% from a year ago to 24.2 billion yuan ($3.43 billion) in the first half this year, the company said in an announcement released on August 9.


The amount equaled to a gain of 1.2 yuan per share, the company said.
