Weihe power plant, a high-sulfur anthracite power generation project in southwestern China's Guizhou province, started construction on August 7, sources reported recently.
Located in Caishen town, Hezhang county and listed as a national power generation demonstration project in January, the project includes one 660 megawatt ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) generator set that burns high-sulfur anthracites, as well as other related supporting facilities, with a total investment of 3.9 billion yuan ($553.17 million), it said.
The project will be operated with the joint efforts of the coal and the power industries.
Besides, the project will play a demonstration role in accelerating the use of anthracites, promoting green and low-carbon development, as well as facilitating the upgrading of energy production.
It is also important for the development of new demonstration zones and poverty alleviation efforts in Guizhou, sources said.
